Despite a three-hit performance from Talee Zackery, the Morris Lady Eagles came up just short in a 9-8 road loss to the Holdenville Lady Wolverines on Monday.
Zackery was red-hot at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, leading a valiant comeback that saw Morris take a brief 7-6 lead in the fifth. The Lady Eagles fell behind early after giving up four runs in the first and two more in the third, but their bats ignited in the fifth with a five-run rally, highlighted by Zackery’s two-run double.
Holdenville answered immediately with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the fifth, including a triple and sacrifice fly from Darcy Shepherd that ultimately sealed the win.
Alli Guynes, Paige Hall and Baylee Qualls had two hits each for the Lady Eagles.
Hayleigh Frazier took the mound for Morris, pitching six innings and allowing seven earned runs.
Addison Brown led Holdenville with a 3-RBI triple, and Alivia Griesinger drew three walks as part of Holdenville’s 10 total free passes at the plate.
Update: The April 23 matchup against Oktaha will now start at 1 p.m.
