May the ‘Fur-th’ Be With You
By PATRICK FORD Editor,

Get ready, Okmulgee, because the fur is about to fly, the paws are about to prance and the Force is about to be very, very adorable.

Get ready, Okmulgee, because the fur is about to fly, the paws are about to prance and the Force is about to be very, very adorable.

On Sunday, May 4, from 5-7 p.m., Jim Newport Memorial Park (Pocket Park) in downtown Okmulgee will transform into a galaxy of giggles and wagging tails for a pet-centric Star Wars-themed extravaganza: the “May the 4th Be With You” celebration and costume contest.

Hosted by local organizers and sponsored by Mithril Adventures (215 W. 7th Street), Vets for Pets and the Okmulgee Rotary Club, the event invites Jedi pups, Sith kitties and all intergalactic companions (yes, even Ewok lookalikes) to don their best Star Wars-themed costumes and strut their stuff for a chance at fame and fabulous prizes. The main event? A Best-Dressed Pet Costume Contest, where pets will compete in two categories - Cats and Dogs - for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prizes. That’s right - this is your moment to turn your tabby into a tiny Yoda or your corgi into Chewbacca. Just remember, all pets must be leashed and cats need to be either crated or closely supervised. The Force is strong, but so is the wind, and no one wants a flying feline incident.

“This is a great way for the community to come together, have fun and support our furry friends,” said event contact Sam Richardson, who can be reached at richmakeamove@aol. com for questions and Jedi mind tricks.

Expect plenty of photo ops, fanfare and fluffy fun - and with the combined powers of Mithril Adventures, Vets for Pets and the Rotary Club behind it, you can bet this is one event that’s going to punch it

to hyperdrive.

So grab your lightsabers, fluff those tails and remember: the Force - and the fur - will be with you, always.
