A fatal motorcycle accident claimed the life of a Henryetta man Tuesday evening, April 8, on State Highway 124, approximately five miles south of Henryetta in rural Okfuskee County.
According to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at approximately 7:34 p.m. when 62-yearold Todd Shurden was traveling northbound on a 2016 BMW motorcycle. For reasons still under investigation, Shurden’s motorcycle left the roadway to the right, struck a rock and then collided with a fence before coming to rest off the road.
Emergency responders from the Plainview Fire Department pronounced Shurden deceased at the scene.
Shurden, a resident of Henryetta, was reportedly wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Despite this precaution, he was ejected from the motorcycle, landing approximately 64 feet from the point of impact.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported that road conditions were clear and dry at the time of the incident.
Trooper Collin Anderson of the Okfuskee County detachment of Troop D is leading the investigation. Authorities have listed Shurden’s condition prior to the crash as “apparently normal,” but the cause of the collision remains under investigation.
No other vehicles or individuals were involved in the incident.
