The curtains have officially closed on H-Town Theatre’s high-octane, heart-filled production of Through the Decades, and what a finale it was.
Held March 29 and 30 at the Alice Ghostley Auditorium, this year’s spring showcase took the audience on a whirlwind journey through seven decades of iconic music, from the crooners of the ‘50s to the fierce female pop stars of the 2000s. Packed with powerhouse vocals, high-ener- gy choreography, emotional moments and a dash of unexpected comedy, Through the Decades was more than a show - it was an experience.
And for nine Henryetta High School seniors, it was the grand finale of their high school theatre careers.
--- A Journey Through Time & Talent
Each decade-themed segment featured a medley of legendary hits and “Featured Artists” that gave students the chance to shine in tributes to their musical heroes. From sophomore Grace Pollard channeling Patsy Cline with soul and strength, to 8th-grader Brittyn Williams impressing the crowd with a sassy, sweet rendition of Dolly Parton, every act brought something unique.
But it was the seniors who truly stole the show. Emma Thompson mesmerized as Stevie Nicks with a hauntingly beautiful take on the rock icon’s 1980s hits. Addy Chavez brought the house down as Gwen Stefani in a 90s throwback that had the entire crowd clapping along. Behind the scenes and in the spotlight, seniors poured their hearts into every element of the performance.
--- Vanilla Ice ... Price?
In a moment no one saw coming - but will never forget - Henryetta Superintendent Jason Price made a surprise appearance during the second act’s 90s Hip Hop Throwback Dance Party. Donning a retro look and some serious moves, “Vanilla Price” was born, and the crowd erupted.
“Because of that layout it had me just offstage/ backstage awaiting my 2nd Act speech to intro our tech kids and their contributions to the show,” Coach Justin Been stated in a media post. “As I positioned myself, I thought why not get some different view footage of our kiddos. That led to me literally walking across stage videoing the entire “Vanilla Ice Price” dance! How awesome are our students, and how awesome is our superintendent?”
--- A Bittersweet Goodbye
As the final number faded and the audience rose for a standing ovation, emotions ran high. H-Town Theatre’s Class of 2025 seniors took their final bows, many wiping away tears as cheers echoed through the auditorium.
With spotlights dimming and the stage now quiet, the legacy of this year’s showcase - and the seniors who helped bring it to life - will echo long after the final curtain.
And somewhere, backstage in Henryetta, there’s still a little Vanilla Ice swagger lingering in the wings.
--- Final Curtain Call: H-Town Theatre Seniors, Class of 2025 Thank you for the music, the memories, and the magic. You will always be H-Town.
