Everyone in David’s army, including David himself, had families taken away by the men they were fighting. During the course of the battle, a couple hundred of David’s warriors had fallen behind while the remaining men routed their enemies. When these battle wearied men returned with their plunder, they felt put out by having to share with the men who had not gone all the way through. David insisted it was only right that all share equally and it took all he had plus God’s strength to stand up to his soldiers. Have we not all been in a similar situation? There are times when athletic, business, or even church teams work together to accomplish tasks, and while some may be more visible than others, it is very important to remember that the ones who work in the background are just as necessary as the team leaders. Jesus tells us that if we are wise we must build a house on solid rock, a strong foundation. It will not matter that there is talent at the top if it is not based on those who care nothing for a star on their dressing room door, willing to share both burden and glory. And for those who feel “less,” you are not! Every single person involved in the endeavors of a group has a purpose and a place. Stand up, be proud of whatever is your part, and work for God’s glory. He will bless you so much your cup will run over.
