The Morris Lady Eagles struggled to contain the Haskell Lady Haymakers’ bats on Monday, falling 16-1 in a three-inning contest.
Morris struck first when Talee Zackery grounded into a fielder’s choice that allowed a run to score in the top of the first. But Haskell responded with a ninerun outburst in the bottom half, highlighted by Ava Draper’s two-run double.
The Lady Eagles were led by leadoff hitter Alli Guynes, who collected two of the team’s three hits. Audrey Hunalp started in the circle for Morris, but control issues led to four runs on zero hits before she was relieved early in the first inning.
Defensively, the Lady Eagles couldn’t recover as Haskell added two runs in the second and five more in the third, capped by back-to-back home runs from Riley Westmoreland and Cheyanna Morgan.
The Lady Eagles will regroup as they prepare for their next matchup, looking to bounce back and regain their rhythm at the plate and in the field.
