Just how much of our life belongs to God? We have 24 hours in each day. Of those 24, let’s say we have eight hours for sleep and eight hours for work, which leaves eight hours of other activity. At 60 minutes per hour, that comes to 480 minutes. Now if we tithe our time to the Lord as conscientiously as we do our income, that allows 48 minutes per day for the Lord. But do we give Him even a tithe of that tithe? The word tithe itself means a tenth of something, so I am wondering if we each give the Lord even five minutes per day. We are so busy with busyness. What has that brought us? Probably headaches, high blood pressure, lack of sleep, depression, ulcers, and heart problems. What if we slowed things down for just those five minutes each day? Once we discovered how much more smoothly things run when we allow God in, we may even tend to run those five minutes into ten or even 20! When we “get lost” in study, prayer, or song, it is amazing how time and the world can slip past us. And to allow that time in peaceful occupation will bring benefits beyond the moment. Work diligently to develop a new habit of setting aside just a few minutes for the Lord whose blessings flow so abundantly, at whatever time of day suits you best, and the chances are great that you will soon see a better tomorrow.
