The remodeling project for Courtroom 2 in the Okmulgee County Courthouse is now complete, with Judge Deborah Reheard hearing cases in the new updated facility.
Following the overhaul and addition of new amenities in the main courtroom, Number 1, on the third floor of the historic structure, work began in earnest in completely refiguring Courtroom 2, located also on the third floor.
One of the biggest tasks was the disassembling and reassembly of the marble bench, which was moved on the north wall. A new safety-conscious entrance is now in place for the judge and other members of the court.
A new jury box was built, and the audience benches were turned to face north, with new partitions constructed.
A rich, dark stain has been added to the room, walls, and trim work, making the space even more distinguished and ready for court.
The addition of new tables and electronics are now being used at the lawyers’ tables, which are similar to the ones in the large courtroom.
Though there won’t be any drop-down screen, the judge said, there will be the addition of a large video monitor that will be used during court if needed.
The main door to the courtroom was changed out also, to alleviate someone breaking out the glass.
Remodeling work is almost complete in the Commissioners’ Meeting Room on the second floor. Last week, the regular meeting was held in Courtroom 2, before moving back to the regular room this week.
