Early voting begins Thursday, Feb. 27, for voters in Okmulgee County. Voters who cannot make it to the polls on March 4 election day have the option of voting early at the Okmulgee County Election Board. The unexpired term State Senate District 8 seat will be on the March 4 Special Republican Primary Election and a Special School Proposition for Liberty Public Schools will be on the March 4 ballot.
According to Okmulgee County Election Board Secretary Ashley Carnes, early voting is open to all voters. “You do not need to provide an excuse to vote early,” Carnes said. “Oklahoma allows early voting for all elections conducted by the County Election Board or State Election Board – from school board and municipal elections to state and federal elections. This is a great option for those who will be out of town on Election Day or who want to avoid long lines.”
Early voting is available at the Okmulgee County Courthouse, located at 314 W 7th Street, Room 102 in Okmulgee on Thursday and Friday, Feb. 27-28, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, March 1, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Carnes reminds voters that early voting is only available at the election board office.
March 4 is Election Day. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. All 25 polling locations in Okmulgee County will be open on Election Day. To be eligible to vote on the Special School Proposition ballot, voters must be registered with an address in the Liberty Public School District. The Special Election for the State Senate is a Primary Election, and Oklahoma has closed primaries. To be eligible to vote in a political party primary election, the voter must be registered with that political party.
Some voters may need assistance to vote because they are blind or visually disabled, physically disabled or infirmed or illiterate. Such individuals may request to have an assistant or vote privately and independently using the ATI device attached to the voting device. Those who require assistance should talk to their precinct official or contact the County Election Board directly for instructions.
