Congratulations to all who ran for office and are running for office. It is a big deal to run for office, taking a bit of courage to put yourself “out there” publicly. Yet with all the celebrations, looking at the facts of Okmulgee’s registered voter count at 5,537 per the Okmulgee County Election Board, only 299 people cast their votes. This number is 5.7% of the voters in our city boundaries cast a vote. Five percent. Does this number make anyone else shake their head in awe and wonder why?
