Congratulations to the Morris High School Academic Team and Coach Jeremy Avery for winning the 2025 Oklahoma State Championship 3A Academic Bowl.
This is the third time in a row for the outstanding team and their coach.
In a post made after their win, Coach Avery expressed his feelings after this year that brought challenges and losses: “I’m not even sure where to begin except to say how proud I am of this team. This year has been nothing like what we expected, but who could’ve? We lost our heart and joy, our glue, the one who kept us together. And when pain could’ve buried them, these kids did exactly what McKinley loved about them. They cried together, laughed together, leaned on each other, and loved each other. They were a family, and today they overcame together.
Thank you to everyone who has been there for us. Thank you for the cards, and the snacks, and the texts, and the calls. We appreciate it more than you know. We love you McKinley, you’re still our heart. 2025 State Champs and not done yet.
– The MHS Team blazed through the rounds to capture the championship, as they found themselves once again at the top. They were also the 2025 Class 3A Area, Regional and District Champions.
It’s been a busy year with the team competing at many events against much bigger schools, which didn’t stop the group.
The team also competed at the I Want Answers competition hosted by Rogers State University.
Coach Avery, his team and the entire Morris School district mourned the loss of a key member of the team, McKinley McGirt, who passed away in January.
The MHS Academic teams are qualified to attend the Small School Nationals in Chicago which will take place April 25-27, along with a return trip to the National Championship in Atlanta, which is set for May 23-25.
Members of the Morris High School Academic Team are McKinley Mc-Girt, Ean Merrill, Keyton Tiger-Harjo, Nicole Gehring, Gage Dixon, Braden Ramirez, Jackson Casey, Avery Berry, Grace Bowling and Max Frazier.
