Coben grew up in Livingston, where he graduated high school, and studied political science and played basketball at Amherst College. It was in his senior year at college that he decided he wanted to write.
After graduating college in 1984, he went to work for his grandfather in the travel industry. He began writing and his first book, “Play Dead,” a romantic suspense thriller was published in 1990. He is also the creator and executive producer of several Netflix television dramas.
Fourteen of his novels have been conformed for film and television. His 35 novels have sold over 80 million copies worldwide and translated into 46 languages around the globe. Coben is the first author to receive the Edgar Award, the Shamus award and the Anthony Award all three.
Coben is married to Anne Armstrong, who is a pediatrician. They live in Ridgewood, N.J. and have three children, Charlotte, Ben and Will.
