The year 2024 was eventful for Henryetta, Dewar, and the surrounding areas in Okmulgee County, Oklahoma. Below is an overview of significant events and developments: • Aundrea Lee is named Henryetta High School Girls Softball Coach.
• The Henryetta Chamber of Commerce celebrated an outstanding year at their awards banquet held at Henryetta High School. Named as Henryettans of the Year were Valerie Mosco and Kelly Dobson, for their work in bringing the Henryetta Hallmark Christmas to life.
• Dewar School Bond Proposal Announced: Dewar Public Schools District citizens were informed of a proposed special bond issue totaling $320,000, set for a vote on April 2. The funds were intended for district-wide renovations, including restroom remodeling and playground equipment acquisition. The bond passed.
• Henryetta Hosts Pyrex Swap: The Oklahoma Pyrex Swap 2024 event took place in Henryetta, attracting collectors and enthusiasts of vintage Pyrex cookware. April
• H-Town Theatre was excited to bring to the community their production of “The Music Man,” in the Alice Ghostley Auditorium at Henryetta High School. This year’s event was special as the department was able to acquire costumes from a major company that were used in Broadway productions of “The Music Man.” The Henryetta Education Foundation also assisted H-Town Theatre in getting new equipment for use in the productions.
• Henryetta Shooting Investigation: Authorities investigated a drive-by shooting in Henryetta that resulted in the arrest of 19-yearold Anthony Hernandez on charges of Shooting with Intent to Kill.
• Charges Filed in Henryetta Double-Murder Case: Formal charges were filed against a man accused of killing two people in Henryetta in late July, marking a sig- nificant development in the case.
• Dewar’s Coach Been Celebrates 200th Win: Dewar Dragons Head Football Coach Josh Been achieved his 200th career win, solidifying his status among Oklahoma’s elite high school football coaches.
• Henryetta High School celebrated Homecoming, crowning James George and Addy Chavez as King and Queen during a week of spirited activities.
• Breanna Campbell- Bevenue from Henryetta High School represented VFW Auxiliary Post 539 in the National VFW Auxiliary “Red, White, and Blue… National Anthem” singing competition. The 15-year-old took the top spot in her division (K8).
• The Dewar Dragons secured their eighth district title in eight years with a 47-0 victory over Caddo, continuing their football dominance.
• Four county high school football teams, including the Henryetta Knights and Dewar Dragons, advanced to the OSSAA Class B and 2A playoffs, reflecting a strong season for local athletics.

— Events Take Center Stage The annual Labor Day Celebration from Aug. 29 through Sept. 2 was a highlight, featuring a carnival, rodeo, parades, live music, and tournaments, drawing residents and visitors alike.
In December, the Henryetta Hallmark Christmas Window Decorating Contest showcased the town’s festive spirit, with local businesses adorning their storefronts in creative holiday displays.
New this year was the Henryetta Chamber of Commerce Mistletoe Market, featuring vendors, entertainment, food and shopping the first three weekends of December.
Henryetta Cross Country senior Kenleigh Kaler was selected to the Oklahoma Cross Country Track Coaches Association All-Star Team, recognizing her outstanding performance.
— City Developments & Initiatives The Henryetta City Council took proactive steps to address community concerns. In April, they initiated efforts to tackle dilapidated structures. Various projects aimed at improving the quality of life for residents, including upgrades to Nichols Park and the city’s water system were either completed or undertaken.
Several new businesses came to the area, and the construction of a new Casey’s General Store neared completion.
