Ted Dekker, an American author of Christian mystery, thriller and fantasy novels, celebrates his birthday on Oct. 24. He was born in 1962 in Kanggime, Indonesia.

His parents were missionaries among the Dani people, and he grew up among cannibals of Indonesia. When he was six, he was sent away to a multicultural school. His early life was fascinating and lonely. He graduated high school and took up permanent residence in the United States to study philosophy and religion at Evangel University in Springfield, Mo.

Ted is best known for psychological thrillers and fantasy tales. Two of his books have been made into movies. More than 20 of his books are New York Times bestsellers. This international bestselling author has written over 40 novels which have sold more than 15 million copies. His first standalone novel is “Blink,” published in January 2003. In 2013, NPR readers nationwide named him as one of the top suspense writers of all time.

Ted lives in Austin, Texas with his wife, Lee Ann. They have four grown children, Rachelle, J.T., Kara and Chelise. Their oldest daughter, Rachelle Dekker is also an author.
