Rudolph on Tour

First Family Federal Credit Union in Okmulgee notified us that we were receiving a donation in honor of International Credit Union Day. We like to take a dog for donation photo shoots because it is all about the animals. This prompted a rather spontaneous Rudolph on Tour. Local businesses agreed to sponsor Rudolph’s big day.

After he visited every FFFCU office, said hello to all the employees and got his picture taken with the group, we headed to Midge & Millie’s Coffee Shop & Booksellers at 813 E. 6th. Midge & Millie’s was packed with patrons and Rudolph and a blast. He greeted every person in the room and thoroughly enjoyed the little hands of children giving him long, loving rubs. We humans took advantage of the opportunity to get delicious, iced coffee drinks.

Rudolph’s next stop occurred at Roses & Lace Flowers 122 E. 6th, where he was greeted with lots of love, and he sniffed all the plants and the beautiful, sweet-smelling gifts. Employees and customers were thankful for Rudolph’s visit, and we couldn’t resist doing a little shopping - after all Christmas is just around the corner and shopping local is the best option especially for unique gifts.

We then popped into Bud’s Suds, 120 E. 6th, where they allowed Rudolph to roam free. Once off the leash, we discovered Rudolph is a real hugger and cuddle bug. After he enjoys a good runabout, he wants to crawl into a lap and tuck his head into a neck. We sat on the nice, clean floor and just let him do his thing.

We were on our way to walk around the Square, but since Bud’s Suds is next door to Roses & Lace, Rudolph was then determined to go into every store front door. So, we made a surprise visit to the Okmulgee Main Street office, 120 E. 6th. They were very gracious about Rudolph’s spontaneous tour stop and we shared our information for future cooperation.

Rudolph did make it around the Square and was extremely curious about all the smells around the trees and of course all the store front doors. We decided it was time to take him to a place where he could run free, get a bowl of water, and take a nice break. What better place than our very own green space adjacent to what will soon be OCHS Adoption Center? He did really take pleasure in his free run around the fenced, large, grassy area.

It was then time to head to Greg Marriott’s Accounting office at 215 E. 8th. All the employees came to hang out with Rudolph in the lobby. That’s when we discovered this charmer is a real ladies’ man. He crawled into many laps, gave lots of hugs, and nearly fell asleep while us humans had a fun discussion.

Rudolph was invited to make a tour stop by the kind animal lovers at McClendon-Winters Funeral Home, 303 E. 7th. He fully loved investigating their lovely and peaceful environment and we were so thankful to them for allowing Rudolph to show off his kind demeanor and beauty.

By this time of the day, it was clear Rudolph was ready for another break just to be, so we took him to our temporary office located at 115 S. Muskogee Ave. We put a pet bed down for him thinking he might want to curl up for a nap. He was interested, but not that much. He eventually found a favorite toy and played like a puppy tossing it about while lying on the floor.

Rudolph received a lot of attention, nearly got adopted, but did return to boarding at the end of his tour day. He is still available for our Break Out of Boarding campaign for only $25 adoption fee. Please visit the OCHS website to see more of Rudolph and submit an application to meet him in person at www.okmulgeehumane.org/adopt.html.

OCHS would like to thank First Family Federal Credit Union for thinking of us for a donation on their very special day and we thank each of these local businesses for having Rudolph on his special day. We want you to know that each of these businesses said anytime we want to bring a Dog on Tour, they are more than welcome to visit.
