Dan graduated from Rutgers University in 1977 with a degree in Psychology. He moved back to New York City in 1980 to begin his writing career. He worked as a magazine editor and columnist and married Nina Wallace, a freelance illustrator in 1983, and they have two children, Sam and Emma.
Dan has written over 190 books for kindergarten through middle school students. His books have won him many awards including New York Times Bestseller, Junior Library Guild Selection and many national and state awards.
He has written several series of books, but is well known for his My Weird School series and Baseball Card Adventure series. My Weird School celebrates its 100th book and 20th Anniversary in 2024 and has sold more than 35 million copies globally.
In one of Dan Gutman’s quotes, he says “I want reading my books to feel effortless. I’m trying to write stories that are so captivating that kids will look up after an hour and feel like they’d been watching a movie in their heads.”
When Dan isn’t writing, his hobbies include riding his bike, playing pickleball, throwing Frisbees, playing his guitar, going to movies, listening to music, traveling and exploring New York City.
We have three of his books.
