Nora Roberts was born Eleanor Marie Robertson to parents of Irish ancestry, and was the youngest of five children. She has four older brothers. Her family read books all her growing up years.
In February 1979, Nora began writing during a three-foot snow storm and little chocolate left to eat. She often writes trilogies doing all three books in a row. She does most of her research on the internet because she has a fear of flying.
Her first novel, “Irish Thoroughbred,” was published in 1981. She shortened her birth name thinking romance authors needed a pen name. Her first romantic suspense novel was published in 1995 under her pen name J. D. Robb. The J. D. is from her sons’ names Jason and Dan and the Robb short for her birth name Robertson.
One of the most accomplished authors of our time, Roberts wrote more than 200 New York Times bestsellers and sold over half a billion books worldwide. Her novels have been published in 35 countries, many have been made into television movies and she has won many awards including Golden Medallion Awards, RITA Awards and Quill Awards. Her most popular book is “Blood Brothers” (the first book of her Sign of Seven Trilogy).
Nora and her husband Bruce Wilder live near Boonsboro, M.D., a small town of 3,500 people, where she owns a hotel, fitness centre, restaurant and boutique, and her husband runs a bookshop.
Our local library has 78 of her books.
