The Preston Pirates baseball team has been on a roll, recently extending their record to 6-2 after a series of strong performances. With the upcoming Preston Baseball Tournament just around the corner, the Pirates are gaining momentum, fueled by powerful hitting and solid pitching. Here’s a recap of their last few games.
— McElhannon leads Pirates to win over Okay On Aug. 20, Hunter McElhannon led the charge for the Pirates, driving in four runs on three hits in a dominant 15-3 win over the Okay Mustangs. The Pirates exploded with 12 runs in the first inning, setting the tone for the game. McElhannon’s multiple singles were instrumental, as he contributed to the early onslaught and added runs in the second inning. The Pirates’ pitching was equally strong, with McElhannon, Bradley Winford, and Karson Herbert combining to shut down the Mustangs’ offense.
— Preston falls to Wister despite out-hitting them In a closely contested game on Aug. 22, the Pirates fell 7-4 to the Wister Wildcats, despite recording more hits than their opponents. Kaden Dean and Hunter McElhannon each collected two hits for the Pirates, who initially took the lead in the first inning. However, Wister took control in the third inning and held on to their advantage. Hunter McElhannon pitched four innings, but the Pirates’ efforts weren’t enough to secure a victory.
— Winford’s strong eye leads Pirates past Howe
The Pirates bounced back with an 11-3 win over the Howe Lions, thanks in part to Bradley Winford’s three walks and the team’s six-run fifth inning. Winford’s patience at the plate, along with contributions from Kaden Dean and Jayden Herring, powered the Pirates to victory. On the mound, Jayden Herring pitched five solid innings, allowing just three runs and striking out five.
— Preston defeats Red Oak on multiple-hit performances
Noah Wilson led the way for the Pirates in a 12-2 victory over the Red Oak Eagles. Wilson collected three hits, including a double, as the Pirates piled up 16 hits in the game. The team capitalized on early opportunities, scoring five runs in the second inning and extending their lead throughout the game. Jace Basquez earned the win on the mound, holding the Eagles to just two runs over five innings.
— Pirates surge past Oilton thanks to
big first inning
The Pirates started off their week with a commanding 20-0 victory over Oilton, highlighted by a massive 19run first inning. Kaden Dean, Hunter McElhannon, and Bradley Winford were among the standout hitters, each driving in multiple runs. Karson Herbert pitched a perfect first inning, striking out one and walking one, to secure the win.
-With these impressive performances, the Pirates are well-prepared for the upcoming Preston Baseball Tournament.
