Labor Day promises fun-filled events
As summer winds down, Henryetta gears up for its annual Labor Day Celebration, promising a jam-packed schedule of events from Aug. 29 to Sept. 2. Whether you’re a fan of thrilling rodeo action, family-friendly carnival rides, or competitive tournaments, this year’s festivities have something for everyone.
As summer winds down, Henryetta gears up for its annual Labor Day Celebration, promising a jam-packed schedule of events from Aug. 29 to Sept. 2. Whether you’re a fan of thrilling rodeo action, family-friendly carnival rides, or competitive tournaments, this year’s festivities have something for everyone.
The celebration kicks off with the much-anticipated carnival on East Main Street, offering nightly thrills from Thursday through Monday. Bracelets for unlimited rides will be available each evening for purchase.
Motorsport enthusiasts won’t want to miss the Smokin’ Hot Car & Bike Show on Aug. 31, where Main Street will transform into a showcase of classic and custom vehicles. Registration opens at 8 a.m., with a $10 entry fee for participants. Judging begins at 10 a.m. and the event ends at 2 p.m.

There will also be the Beard & Stache competition, Registration will start at 10 a.m. and competition at 11 a.m. Entry is free for all four categories:
• Full Beard
• Mustache
• Free Style
• People’s Choice The People’s Choice winner will be chosen based on donations. The contestants will be given a container at registration and the contestant with the most donations will be the People’s Choice Winner.
All container donations will be given to the Henryetta VFW post 539. The top winner in each of the four categories will receive prizes including a custom hat by Big Horny Ranch LLC and beard and mustache products from Modern Viking Beard Company, both Oklahoma-based companies.
Registration for the competition starts at 10 a.m. in the Briefcase on Main Street and the competition begins at 11 a.m.
Henryetta VFW will be set up with information on Veterans Services, along with photo opportunities.
Something else that is new is the Smokin’ Hot Pinup Contest, which will take place Saturday, Aug. 31, at The Briefcase, 313 W. Main St. Registration is at 9 a.m. with the contest at 10 a.m.
This competition features Classic, Family Friendly Pinup Styles (No bathing suits or Burlesque, please). Registration is free but limited to the first 15 registrations. The first five registrants receive a free swag bag! Crowns and Sashes for Top 3.
Music lovers can uplift their spirits at the Labor Day Gospel Concert on Aug. 31 at Henryetta First Baptist Church starting at 6 p.m., featuring soul-stirring performances in a community atmosphere.
For those seeking adrenaline- pumping action, the Jim Shoulders PRCA Rodeo roars into Nichols Park, Thursday through Monday, with events beginning at 8 p.m. The event includes the beloved Mutton Bustin’ starting at 6:30 p.m. each night, and on Sept. 1, the PRCA Steer Roping at 9 a.m.
Sports enthusiasts can test their skills at the Love Wins Horseshoe Tournament on September 1st at EndTime Revival Tabernacle, just south of Henryetta. Doubles and singles competitions offer a chance to showcase precision and teamwork, with registration beginning at noon. Meanwhile, Nichols Park hosts the Birdie Derby Disc Golf Tournament on Sept. from 9:45 a.m. to 1 p.m., inviting disc golfers of all levels to compete for glory.
For a laid-back yet competitive vibe, the Jared Been Memorial Cornhole Tournament takes center stage at Henryetta High School Gymnasium on Sept. 1 and 2, starting at 3 p.m. and noon respectively. Participants can register online or on-site for this friendly competition.
The highlight of the celebration culminates with the Henryetta Labor Day Parade on Sept. 2 at 10 a.m., featuring vibrant floats, marching bands and local personalities along Main Street. Live music precedes the parade at 9 a.m.
The Henryetta Rotary Club brings a sweet treat with the 2nd annual Homemade Ice Cream Competition on Sept. 2.
Following the parade, attendees can savor a delicious BBQ lunch at the Henryetta Civic Center, hosted by the Okmulgee County Democratic Party.
Post-parade activities include the Terrapin Race, Frog Hopping Contest and Fish Scramble on S. 6th Street. Gazebo Park on South 4th Street hosts the Ruby Gooden Labor Day Games at 2 p.m.
As evening falls, the excitement continues with gates opening at 6 p.m. at Henryetta High School Football Field. The Jared Deck Band takes the stage, providing live music to accompany the Baby Crawling Contest and the presentation of parade awards.
The grand finale lights up the night sky with a spectacular fireworks show at dark, presented by Hwy 62 Fireworks, creating a dazzling end to a memorable celebration.
