Starting Monday, you can try your key on the treasure chest lock located at the Okmulgee Times, 320 W. 6th Street. The first person to open the chest will win $500 cash presented by First Family Federal Credit Union, along with prizes donated by area retailers.
Key attempts can only be made during regular business hours Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday until 2 p.m. Only one key can be attempted at a time and the packet must be unopened. If the lock has not been opened by 3 p.m. Aug. 21, a drawing will take place from a list of non-winning key holders. Participants can still stop by the Times office and receive one key per day. Participating businesses will distribute keys based on their own individual promotions.
A winner is guaranteed, because if the lock is not opened by a winning key during the promotion, a winner will be drawn from the second-chance drawing entries.
