In a recent meeting of the Henryetta Public School Board of Education, held on July 8, the discussions and presentations highlighted both achievements and administrative matters crucial to the district’s operations.
New Superintendent Jason Price welcomed staff and community members before the session began as he begins his tenure over the district.
To open the meeting, FFA Advisor Brooke Smith spoke about the chapter’s pursuit of the prestigious National Chapter Award. This award stands as a testament to the hard work and dedication of the FFA members, placing the Henryetta chapter among the top contenders on a national level.
Smith provided detailed insights into the application process, highlighting the meticulous preparation involved and the positive feedback received during evaluations. The board was invited to review the application to gain a deeper understanding of the effort invested and the potential outcomes.
The board approved several fundraisers for FY2024-25, including a unique event involving a “rabbit chase,” where community members can participate by purchasing squares that correspond to potential winning rabbit ‘paths’ – an innovative approach to generating support for school programs.
Other agenda items considered were:
• Table whether to approve or not approve the Adoption Resolution for the 2023 Okmulgee County Hazard Mitigation Plan Update act of 2000. This will allow time for the board to look over the information.
• Approved Adjunct Teachers for High School for the 2024-25 school year: Justin Been – 1 Section of Drama and 1 Section of Communications I, Ryan Swallow – 4 Sections of Health and Financial Literacy.
• Adjunct Teachers for Elementary for the 2024-2025 school year: Michelle Shrum 2nd Grade, Julie Kilhoffer Watson for 3rd Grade, Jenna McGill 4th grade, Shantel Cox for 1st Grade, Katie Simons for 1st Grade.
• Employment of Stephen L. Smith Corp. as financial consultants to the Schools District, for the fiscal year 2024-2025.
• Approved action to Surplus school property located at: Legal: Lot 1, Block 38 in the Original Townsite of the City of Henryetta, Okmulgee County, State of Oklahoma: Lot Size: 0.16 acres (50×140) Street Address: 213 E. Main Street.
• Accepted Resignation Letter from Colin Rogers as of July 8, 2024.
The board entered into executive session to discuss negotiations concerning employees and representatives of employee groups Upon return to Open Session, the board discussed engagement on legal services and negotiators for the school year.
