Dean Koontz, American author, celebrates July 9, 1945, as his birth date in Everett, Penn. Dean had an abusive childhood because of his father.
After graduation from Shippensburg State College (now University) in 1967, he went to work as a high school English teacher. He published his first novel “Star Quest” in 1968, and over a dozen science fiction novel followed. He changed to suspense and horror fiction in the 1970s, and his book “Whispers,” published in 1980, is said to be his most popular book.
Koontz has written over one hundred five novels, several novellas and collections of short stories using several pen names. Over five million copies of his books have been sold and have been published in 38 languages. At least 18 of his books have been made into movies and several were number one on the New York times bestseller list.
