Doreen Cronin, American author of children’s books, celebrates her birth date on March 28, 1966, in Queens, N.Y. She grew up on Long Island and her dad was a police officer. In elementary school, one of her teachers discovered it was easier for Doreen to write than talk out loud, as she was very shy as a child.
