Purchase of portable toilets seen as cost-saving measure
The Henryetta Economic Development Authority convened for its regular meeting Monday, with discussions ranging from financial reports to infrastructure projects and even the purchase of porta-potties.
A proposal to purchase porta-potties instead of renting them was discussed, with potential cost savings and maintenance benefits considered. According to City Manager David Bullard, rentals of the portable toilets cost about $12,000 per year due to the many activities around the city.
By purchasing brand new toilets outright, for just under $15,000, the move would almost pay for the items in the first year.
The board approved Bullard’s recommendation of purchasing 10 regular toilets, and two handicap toilets, for no more than $15,000. In the interim, the cleaning of the toilets would be contracted out until the city is equipped and ready to handle the task.
Here’s a recap of the key points discussed during the meeting:
• Minutes Approval: The meeting began with a review and approval of the minutes from the previous meetings, with minor corrections noted and addressed.
• Financial Report: The financial report for February 2024 was presented, highlighting updates on Certificate of Deposits (CDs) and other financial matters. The report was approved after discussion.
• SITES Property Proposal: The Authority discussed the opportunity to submit properties to the Oklahoma Department of Commerce’s SITES Program, which evaluates industrial property potential, which must be at least 20 acres. They explored the possibility of submitting six properties for assessment.
• There are three properties ready to be submitted by the upcoming deadline.
• The Department of Commerce will provide information on the best way to market the property, and the group will need to provide utilities information.
• Infrastructure Projects: City Manager David Ballard provided updates on various infrastructure projects, including sewer line plans, lift station and spillway repairs and airport improvements.
-The next meeting of the Henryetta Economic Development Authority will be held Tuesday, April 9, instead of the second Monday of the month.
