Ron Graham to give presentation
The Okmulgee County Genealogical Society will hold its monthly meeting Monday, Feb. 26, at 1 p.m. at the Okmulgee Public Library.
In honor of Black History Month, Ron Graham will give a presentation titled “The Freedmen Saga in Indian Territory/Oklahoma Reservation.”
Graham will show a PowerPoint presentation about the genealogy and history of his family in Indian Territory/ Oklahoma Reservation concerning the Muscogee Creek Freedmen. He will utilize the 1900 & 1910 U.S. Censuses, Land Records, Dawes roll numbers and testimonies for citizenship and will discuss the Territory of Lincoln, All-Black Towns and much more.

Ron Graham, Sr. was born and raised in Okmulgee. He graduated from Okmulgee High School and attended Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in Miami and Langston University.
Graham is very passionate and has a great desire to educate others on the genealogy and history of the Dawes Commission in the Five Civilized Tribes, especially the Muscogee (Creek) Nation.
He’s the son of Theodore (Blue) Graham, roll number New Born 671 and maternal grandson of Phyllis Johnson, roll number Minor 124, both listed as Creek Freedmen.
Graham is a direct descendant of Hutton/ Grayson, Corbray and McGilbray. All were Muscogee (Creek) Nation citizens. Graham currently serves as chairman of the Muscogee Creek Freedmen Coalition of Okmulgee, Genealogy Chairman for the Descendants of Freedmen of the Five Civilized Tribes Association and vice president for the Black Genealogy Research Group of Oklahoma. He was also formerly the President and the co-Founder of the Muscogee Creek Indian Freedmen Band and past President for the Okmulgee County NAACP branch.
