County Sheriff’s Office continues investigation
Equipment stolen last week from the Nuyaka Volunteer Fire Department has been recovered after a tip was received by the Okmulgee County Sheriff ’s Office.
Last week, an unknown male subject driving an older model Chevy or GMC truck, took a package containing three sets of bunker gear intended for Nuyaka firefighters. The expensive bunker gear was worth in excess of $7,500.
On Monday, the department’s equipment was found and returned to Nuyaka Fire Chief John Veloria.
Based on information that came from social media shares, OCSO investigators were able to identify a suspect in this case.
Investigative efforts and interviews with the suspect’s family late Monday afternoon led to a caller contacting the Okmulgee Police Department saying they found the equipment and wanted to turn it in.
The caller is not the suspect in this case and is cooperating as a witness at this time.
OCSO investigators are still working at finishing a criminal case for submittal for prosecution.
