The Beggs varsity basketball program welcomed the Eufaula Ironheads and Lady Ironheads to the Beggs Event Center Tuesday evening for a Heartland Conference battle on the hardwood.
The Beggs squads were unable to come away with the home sweep with the host Lady Demons coming up on the short end of a 51-33 outcome in the opening contest, while the Demons dropped a 6530 decision to their McIntosh County foes in the nightcap.
The Beggs cagers will close out the first-half portion of their regular-season schedule Saturday afternoon at Hilldale High School in Muskogee. Saturday’s road game will get underway with girls action at 2 p.m. followed by the boys contest at approximately 3:30 p.m.
In Tuesday’s girls game against Eufaula, the visitors took the opening frame by a 7-5 margin, then doubled their lead at halftime (23-19) after outscoring the host Lady Demons 16-14 in the second quarter. The Beggs ladies were unable to overcome the 4-point halftime deficit in the second half, as Eufaula took the final two stanzas by margins of 15-8 and 13-6, respectively, to hand the Lady Demons the 51-33 setback.
Rylee Youngblood was tops offensively for Beggs in the home loss, as the freshman finished with a team-best 21 points. Other Lady Demon scorers on Tuesday were Kamya Stallings with six and Kaley Collins, Tessa Christy, and Destiny Clay with two apiece.
In Tuesday’s boys conference contest, the Demons sputtered offensively in the first period, being held to just two points in the frame, while Eufaula tallied 19 to put the Beggs gentlemen in an early double- digit deficit, 19-2, after eight minutes of action.
The Demon offense did not get much better in the second stanza, as Beggs was outscored 17-4 in the quarter to trail by 30 points (36-6) at halftime.
The Beggs cagers were unable to overcome the sluggish first-half start in the final two frames, being outscored a combined 29-24 in the second half to suffer the 65-30 defeat.
The Demons were led in scoring by Ezrah Anderson with seven, followed by Jaxon Remington and Jace Basquez with five apiece, Brayden King and Dakota Hudson four each, Jaylen Williams three, and Jason Nethon two.
