Wilson earns latest ‘first’ with forfeit win over South Coffeyville
The Wilson Tiger varsity football program added another ‘first’ in their history books last Friday.
The lastest ‘first’ for the Tiger gridiron squad occurred without the Wilson team stepping onto the football field.
The Tigers were scheduled to battle the South Coffeyville Lions in a District C-3 battle this past Friday night in South Coffeyville, but the Week 9 contest was canceled by the Lions, awarding the Wilson squad its latest district win.
The 15-0 forfeit win puts Wilson at 6-0 in district play and awards the Tigers the district championship win with one regular-season contest remaining – this Friday at home against Watts.
The Tigers are alone at the top of the C-3 standings – one game ahead of Coyle and Wesleyan Christian, who are tied at 5-1 in district play heading into this Friday’s district battle in Coyle. Even if Wilson were to fall at home to Watts, the Tigers will still earn the top spot in the C-3 standings due to having the head-to-head tiebreaker with the winner of Coyle and Wesleyan Christian after earning district wins over each squad earlier in the season.
The first-ever district championship guarantees that the Tigers will host their first (of a possible) two postseason games this season.
Friday’s regular-season finale against the Watts Engineers is set to get underway at 7 p.m. at the Tiger Den at Wilson High School.
