Beggs-Okmulgee county battle to also highlight Week 7 slate
Week 7 of the 2023 varsity football season will see most of the teams in Oklahoma taking the field on Thursday instead of the usual Friday night contests.
The reason for so many Thursday games across the state this week is due to the annual ‘Fall Break’ that lands on the second full week in October every year.
The only Okmulgee County team that will compete on Friday this week will be the Morris Eagles, who are scheduled to travel to Sperry for a District 2A-7 battle with the Sperry Pirates. The reason for the non-Fall Break Thursday contest is that Sperry is not taking a Fall Break in the 2023-2024 school year.
Of the five county teams that will take the field on Thursday, the Wilson Tigers will have the toughest challenge, as they will play host to the Wesleyan Christian Mustangs in a crucial District C-3 contest. Both teams enter the Week 7 showdown with identical 3-0 district records, while Wilson holds the season record edge over Wesleyan Christian by one win, as the Tigers are currently 5-1 on the year, while the Mustangs currently sit at 4-2 in 2023.
The other ‘Fall Break’ Thursday games featuring Okmulgee County teams will see the Beggs Golden Demons and Okmulgee Bulldogs squaring off in a District 2A-7 meeting in Beggs, the Henryetta Golden Knights traveling to Vian for a key District 2A-5 showdown with the Vian Wolverines, and the Dewar Dragons heading to Porum to battle the Porum Panthers in a District B-5 contest.
