Correctional officers beaten, keys stolen in brawl
Further charges have been filed against two inmates in connection with an assault on correctional officers at a local detention center.
According to court documents filed earlier this month, Richard Guitierrez and Christopher Harris allegedly assaulted two officers at the Moore Detention Center in Okmulgee, managing to steal a taser and a set of keys from one of them during an attempted escape on July 13.
Guitierrez was already facing charges of first degree murder and possession of contraband by an inmate. His next hearing is set for Sept. 27 at 1:30 p.m.
Harris has been in custody since June, following the shooting of an Okmulgee police officer, and avoiding escape for several days, while area law enforcement engaged in a manhunt. He was arrested several days later at an Okmulgee hotel.
His hearing is set for Sept. 28 at 9 a.m. Both are now facing five new charges, including assault on a police officer, attempted escape, conspiring to commit violence, and robbery by force or fear.
