Henryetta Labor Day Celebration has added even more events as the city prepares for a weekend of family and rodeo events next weekend.
To kick off the celebration, Great Plains Amusement Carnival will open to the public Aug. 31., from 6-10 p.m. The carnival will be set up on the east end of Main Street in Henryetta behind the O’Reilly Auto Parts Store. The carnival will run nightly Thursday through Monday (Labor Day).
On Friday and Saturday, the carnival will remain open until 11 p.m. There will be $30 wristbands for purchase every day for carnival goers.
First Family Federal Credit Union will host their 11th annual Smokin’ Hot Labor Day Car Show. It will be at 3rd and Main in downtown Henryetta, Sept. 2, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
On Saturday, Sept. 2 the 30th Jim Shoulders Living Legends PRCA Rodeo opens at First Family Federal Credit Union’s Jim Shoulders Living Legends Rodeo Arena at Nichols Park.
The rodeo, which begins at 8 p.m., continues Sunday evening for the final performance.
Mutton Bustin will be at 6:30 p.m. each evening. There is a $10 entry fee, weight limit of 60 pounds, and a limit of 20 per performance.
Another fun event added at the rodeo will be for kids, ages 10 and under, who come dressed as a rodeo clown, will be able to come out into the arena and be judged by Hollywood Harris and rodeo spectators. The winner will receive a new bicycle.
On Sunday, there will be a Mom Calf Scramble with $100 up for grabs.

The Henryetta Lions Club will hold the annual Jared Been Memorial Labor Day Cornhole Tournament, at 5 p.m. on Sept. 3, and 7 p.m. on Sept. 4. The event will be held at the Henryetta HS Gym. On Monday, there is a full day of activities. The annual Labor Day Parade begins at 10 a.m. and the streets will be lined with spectators as they see the Labor Day royalty, decorated cars, floats, politicians, cars of all shapes and sizes, and bands playing. More information about the staging area, and participant information is available on the Facebook page for the celebration. Lineup begins at 8:30 a.m. at 10th Street.
Also on Sept. 4, the Rotary Club of Henryetta will hold the first Homemade Ice Cream Competition with prizes for first, second and third place. It will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Henryetta HS football field. A limited number of tasting tickets will be available for $5, which includes samples of ice cream and a 50/50 raffle. More information - email henryettarotary@ gmail.com Immediately following the parade, the AFL-CIO & OCDP will hold a luncheon at the Henryetta Community Center, 201 S. 4th, beginning at 11 a.m. The dinner ($5) includes pulled pork sandwich, baked beans, potato salad, drink and dessert.
Other events include the turtle race, frog hopping contest and a fish scramble, which is hosted by the Henryetta Fire Fighters Union.
The Henryetta Labor Day Committee hosts the Ruby Gooden Labor Day Games at the Henryetta High School baseball fields behind McDonald’s.
There will be a disc golf tournament at Nichols Park on Sept. 4. Contact person is Josh Craig.
Through the evening there will be live music, a baby crawling contest, and parade awards starting at 6 p.m. at the Henryetta High School football field.
The grand finale will be a fireworks display after dark, sponsored by Hwy. 62 Fireworks, owned by Ryan Sanford and family.
