The Preston Pirate varsity fall baseball team notched their second-straight run-rule win of the 2023 season Tuesday evening with a 9-1 victory over the Red Oak Eagles.

The Pirates were back in action Thursday, competing at the Glencoe Tournament.

After the Glencoe Tournament, the Preston diamond squad will return home Monday, hosting the Okay Mustangs.

In Tuesday’s run-rule win, the visitors opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first.

The Pirates answered with three runs in the home half of the frame to take over the lead, 3-1, after one inning of action.

The Preston squad added a run in its half of the second, two in the third, and three in the fourth to put the finishing touches on the 9-1, run-rule, victory.

Kaden Dean went the distance on the mound for Preston to earn the pitching decision. Dean allowed one run on one hit with three walks and eight strikeouts in five innings of work.

The Pirate offense was led by the trio of Kellen Dean (2 for 2, single, double, 2 RBIs), Easton Shaw (2 for 2, 2 singles, RBI, walk), and Bradley Winford (2 for 3, single, double, 2 RBIs) with two hits apiece.

The other Preston base hits in Tuesday’s win came on a single by Braxton Kennedy, RBI singles by Hunter McElhannon and Dustin Dunlap, double by Luke Hankins, triple by Kaden Dean, and RBI triple Jayden Herring.

Other baserunners against Red Oak were Hankins (walk), McElhannon (hit by pitch), and Kaden Dean (walk).
