The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma announced Wednesday that Lakota John Trumon Watson, age 23, of Okmulgee, was sentenced for his role in a violent armed assault.
The federal district court sentenced Watson to six months imprisonment for one count of Assault with a Dangerous Weapon with Intent to do Bodily Harm in Indian Country, and 120 months imprisonment for one count of Use, Carry, Brandish, and Discharge of a Firearm During and in Relation to a Crime of Violence. The sentences are ordered to run consecutively for a total of 126 months.
The charges arose from investigations by the Henryetta Police Department and the Federal Bu- reau of Investigation.
On Jan. 20, 2022, Watson entered a guilty plea to both counts. On Sept. 4, 2017, during an argument outside of a Henryetta residence, Watson pulled out a .22 Magnum revolver and shot the victim in the stomach. Multiple witnesses identified Watson as the shooter. The crimes occurred within the boundaries of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Reservation, in the Eastern District of Oklahoma.
The Honorable John F. Heil, U.S. District Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, presided over the hearings in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Watson will remain in the custody of the U.S. Marshal pending transportation to a designated United States Bureau of Prisons facility to serve his non-paroleable sentence.
Assistant United States Attorney Benjamin D. Traster represented the United States at the sentencing hearing.
