Barbara Bottner, American author of children’s books, feature scripts, short stories for magazines and primetime comedy, celebrates her birth May 25, 1943, in New York, New York.
Bottner grew up wanting to paint, dance and tell stories. She attended college, studied in Paris and toured Europe as an actress with the Ellen Stewart troupe before she started writing and illustrating children’s books and making children’s films.
She has written picture books, chapter books, young adult books and wrote for Disney’s Winnie the Pooh Series. Several of her award-winning picture books have been animated and translated into multiple languages. She also teaches writing and compares notes and seeks the opinion of writers all over the country. In 1990, she received the New School Distinguished Teaching Award.
Barbara and her M.D. husband Gerald Kruglik live in Los Angeles with their dog, Petey.
