Four Okmulgee County track and field programs competed at two different state meets this past weekend.
Athletes from Beggs, Henryetta, Morris, and Okmulgee battled other teams at the Class 3A state track and field championships at Ardmore High School, while three members of the Dewar Lady Dragon track team competed at the Class A state track and field championships at Western Heights High School in Oklahoma City.
The Henryetta Golden Knights were the top county team at the state track meets with a seventh-place finish. The Knights finished with 30 team points at the 2-day event. The Okmulgee Bulldogs finished tied for 15th overall with 18 team points, while the Beggs Golden Demons were tied for 32nd overall with three team points.
On the girls side at the Class 3A meet, the Okmulgee Lady Bulldogs finished tied for 27th overall with five team points. Beggs, Henryetta, and Morris finished tied for 37th overall at the 2-day event.
At the Class A state meet, the Lady Dragons finished tied for 42nd overall with one team point, which came with Gracie Johnson’s eighth-place finish in the Pole Vault.
The top individual performer from Okmulgee County this past weekend was Henryetta senior Blake Wynne, who took home three medals from the Class 3A state meet. Wynne snared an individual state championship in the Long Jump and a state runner-up medal in the 100 meter dash and was also part of the Knights’ bronze-medal-winning 1600 meter relay team, along with Jordan Short, Nathan Nail, and Talon Weaver.
The top individual finisher on the girls side was Okmulgee senior Amerria Fourshey with a fourthplace finish in the 100 meter dash.
Besides Wynne, the only other county athlete to take home a Top 3 medal this past weekend was Okmulgee freshman Larry Yahola, who was crowned state runner-up in the 400 meter dash.
