Okmulgee to host annual tournament

Morgan Field at Bateman Park in Okmulgee will be the site of this weekend’s Okmulgee Neal’s Classic baseball tournament.

Cleveland, Meeker to kick off 3-day event Thursday

Morgan Field at Bateman Park in Okmulgee will be the site of this weekend’s Okmulgee Neal’s Classic baseball tournament.

The annual 3-day event will get started Thursday at 10 a.m. with a showdown between the Cleveland Tigers and Meeker Bulldogs.

Besides Cleveland, Meeker, and the host Okmulgee Bulldogs, the other teams competing at the annual tournament include the Beggs Golden Demons, Kiefer Trojans, Bristow Purple Pirates, Haskell Haymakers, Keys Cougars, Tahlequah Sequoyah Indians, and the Woodward Boomers, who are currently coached by former Okmulgee baseball standout David Dunlap, who also served as head softball and baseball coach for some time at OHS.

Thursday’s opening day schedule will include the host Okmulgee Bulldogs battling the Cleveland/ Meeker winner at 12 p.m., followed by Keys and Haskell doing battle at 2 p.m., Beggs and Bristow squaring off at 4 p.m., Woodward taking on Tahlequah Sequoyah at 6 p.m., and Kiefer going up against the Woodward/Tahlequah Sequoyah winner at 8 p.m.

Friday’s tournament action will also feature six games, beginning at 10 a.m., while Saturday’s tournament schedule will begin with the seventh-place game at 11 a.m.

Saturday’s other tourament contests will feature the consolation finals at 1 p.m., the third-place game at 3 p.m., and the championship game at 5 p.m.
