The Preston Lady Pirate varsity slowpitch softball team improved to 15-4 on the year this past Friday with a 6-0 road win over the Porum Lady Panthers.
The sixth-ranked (in Class 4A) Lady Pirates will return to action this Thursday with a home meeting with the Class 2A No. 13 Dewar Lady Dragons and will close out the week Friday with a trip to Stroud to battle the Class 4A No. 9 Stroud Lady Tigers.
In last Friday’s shutout win over Porum, the Lady Pirates opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first.
The Preston squad doubled their lead, 2-0, with a run in their half of the third, then added two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings for a comfortable 6-0 advantage.
Neither team managed any runs in the final two and onehalf innings of regulation to award the visiting Lady Pirates the 6-0 decision.
The Preston offensive attack against Porum was led by Kristen Houlby (3 for 4, 2 singles, triple, RBI), Josie Cope (3 for 4, 3 singles), and McKenna Jones (3 for 4, 3 singles) with three hits apiece.
Other Lady Pirate batters with multi-hit games last Friday were Celeste Pineda (2 for 4, 2 singles), Jaiden Harley (2 for 4, 2 singles, RBI), and Karris Tecumseh (2 for 4, single, double, RBI) with two hits each.
The final three Preston hits in the road win came on singles by Taylan Starr and Kinlee Basquez and an RBI single by Emilie Stidman.
