Event planned April 2 at Nichols Park
The Nichols Park Restoration Committee is planning another event in celebration of the 3rd annual Great American Cleanup at Nichols Park which will be held Saturday, April 22.
The community is invited to come out and assist in the cleanup, with supplies provided by Keep Oklahoma Beautiful.
The cleanup will be held from 2:30 5 p.m. beginning at the Nichols Park Caretakers House.
Refreshments and hot dogs will be served to the volunteers, and all help is appreciated.
This year, the group is offering prizes for the most trash collected by a group or an individual: 1st place – $200, 2nd place – $100, and 3rd place – $50!
As part of the restoration efforts at Nichols Park, American Exchange Bank recently presented the Nichols Park Restoration Committee Inc. representative Steve Sanford with a $500 award to further its efforts in restoring the caretaker’s house. The restoration committee and numerous volunteers have done an amazing job and are to be commended for their efforts in preserving a valuable piece of Henryetta’s history. As part of the Keep America Beautiful effort, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation also holds its Trash-Off Day on April 15. Trash-Off is the statewide cleanup day when Adopt-A-Highway (AAH) groups, cities and communities, counties, state parks, Corps of Engineers Lakes and other organizations and individuals volunteer to clean Oklahoma highways, roads and community areas. The event began as a coordinated pickup day for AAH groups, but has grown to include a wide variety of organizations.
Cities often participate by arranging free dump days or curbside pickups. Many groups combine cleanups with other fun events such as picnics, contests or trash parades to encourage participation.
