She was always writing and collecting words and her mother encouraged her to do so. She loved the word cucumber then one day it was replaced with chutney. She wrote a Thanksgiving poem in second grade that was published in the school paper.
Jerdine has a B.A. in special education from Northeastern Illinois University in 1975 and a M.Ed. in interdisciplinary arts education from Loyola University in Chicago 1981. She has worked in education in many forms from classroom teacher, writing curriculum and administration.
She married Anthony Harold in 1988 and they had two children, Matthew and Jessica.
Her first book, Harvey Potter’s Balloon Farm was published in 1994 and was later made into a movie. Her many picture books range from thoughtful to wildly imaginative. Along with her writing, she enjoys visiting schools to talk about her books and being an author.
Jerdine lives in Ellicott City, Maryland with her children.
We only have one of her (B-2) books Raising Dragons.
