The Bulldogs improved to 3-9 on the campaign with a 21-11 victory over the visiting Okemah Panthers.
The Okmulgee diamond squad returned to action Monday and Tuesday with a pair of District 3A-5 meetings with county rival Morris. The two county squads opened their back-to-back district showdown Monday in Morris then moved the county battle to Okmulgee on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs will close out this week’s schedule at the 2nd Annual Bobby Mudd Memorial Tournament in Mounds. The Okmulgee squad will open tournament play Thursday at 4 p.m. against the Chouteau-Mazie Wildcats.
A win on Thursday will put the Bulldogs into Friday’s semifinal round at 6:15 p.m. against the winner of Thursday’s opening-round meeting between Wewoka and the host Mounds Golden Eagles, while a loss will drop the Okmulgee squad into Friday’s consolation semifinals at 1:15 p.m. against the Mounds-Wewoka loser.
In Friday’s slugfest against Okemah, the visitors opened the scoring with five runs in the top of the first.
The Bulldogs answered with seven runs in their half of the inning for a 7-5 adavantage.
Okemah plated a pair of runs in the top of the second to deadlock the score at 7-7, while Okmulgee regained the lead for good, 15-7, with an 8-run bottom of second.
The Bulldogs took the third inning by a 2-1 margin to extend their lead to eight, 16-8, then the visitors cut the Okmulgee lead to five, 16-11, with three runs in the top of the fourth.
The Okmulgee diamond squad ended the game on a run rule, 21-11, with four runs in the home half of the fourth, for their third win of the season.
The Bulldog offense finished with 16 hits in the run-rule win, led by Daylan Callaway, who finished 5 for 5 with two singles, three doubles, and 7 RBIs.
Jalen Monahwee was next offensively for Okmulgee on Friday, going 4 for 4 at the plate with two singles, two doubles, and 3 RBIs.
Alex Gilmour finished 3 for 4 with a single, two doubles, and 5 RBIs in the win, while Jordan Deere (2 for 3, 2 singles) and Braelin Hopkins-Lewis (2 for 3, 2 singles, RBI) also recorded multi-hit games for the Bulldogs against Okemah with two hits apiece.
Austin Burwell drove in two runs for Okmulgee in the contest with an RBI walk in the second and an RBI fielder’s choice in the fourth, while Kevin Washington ended the game on the run rule in the fourth with one-out RBI walk.
Gilmour got the start on the mound for the Bulldogs on Friday and was awarded the pitching win, allowing 11 runs on nine hits, striking out three, walking three, and hitting two in four innings of work.
