The Preston Lady Pirate slowpitch softball team improved to 7-1 on the season Monday evening with a dominating 15-3 win over the Porum Lady Panthers.
The host Lady Pirates did all of their offensive damage in the first two innings of the 4-inning contest.
The Preston squad returned to action Thursday afternoon at the annual Dewar Slowpitch Softball Tournament, facing Okmulgee, Strother, and Dewar in consecutive Pool Play contests, beginning at 2:45 p.m.
The Lady Pirates are scheduled to compete in the Heartland Conference Slowpitch Festival on Friday before returning to Dewar Saturday for bracket play at the Dewar Tournament.
In Monday’s home battle with Porum, the Lady Pirates opened the scoring with seven runs in the bottom of the first, then added eight in the second for a comanding 15-0 advantage after two innings of action.
Porum broke up the shutout with three runs in the top of the third and were held scoreless in its half of the fourth to award the host Preston diamond squad the 15-3, run-rule, win.
Celeste Pineda was the top offensive performer for the Lady Pirates in the home win, going 3 for 3 with 3 singles and an RBI.
Taylan Starr (2 for 3, double, home run, 2 RBIs), Josie Cope (2 for 2, 2 singles, 2 RBIs), and Emilie Stidman (2 for 2, 2 doubles, 4 RBIs) also recorded multi-hit games for Preston on Monday with two hits apiece. Starr’s home run came on a leadoff solo blast in the first.
The other base hits for the Lady Pirates against Porum came on a single by Jaiden Harley, double by Jadyn Roberts, RBI single by Kinlee Basquez, RBI double by Kristen Houlby, and 2-run double by McKenna Jones. Roberts drove in one of the seven Preston runs in the first with an RBI fielder’s choice.
