The Demons found themselves on the losing end of a 14-4 outcome at home on Monday and were doubled up, 4-2, in Tuesday’s district series finale in Meeker.
The district losses put Beggs at 7-5 on the year and 4-4 in district play.
The Demons were scheduled to return to action Thursday with a 6:30 p.m. showdown with Checotah in the first round of the 2023 Beggs Under Armour Classic baseball tournament. A win over the Wildcats will put the Beggs squad into Friday’s semifinal round at 6:30 p.m. against the winner of Thursday’s opening-round battle between Kellyville and Depew, while a loss to Checotah will drop the Demons into the consolation semifinals Friday at 1:30 p.m. against the Kellyville-Depew loser.
In Monday’s home battle with Meeker, both teams tallied three runs in the first inning, then Meeker plated seven runs in the top of the second for a 10-3 advantage. The visitors added a run in the third and three in the fourth for a 14-3 margin.
The Demons managed just one run in the bottom of the fifth to hand the Beggs squad the run-rule loss, 14-4.
Dakota Hudson was saddled with the pitch- ing loss for Beggs on Monday, allowing nine runs on four hits with one strikeout, six walks, and one hit batsman in one-plus inning of work.
Ranson Stephens worked the final four innings in relief, giving up five runs on six hits, striking out five and walking three.
Nate Melton (2 for 3, single, triple, RBI) and Ranson Stephens (2 for 3, single, double, RBI) led the offensive attack for Beggs in the loss with two hits apiece.
The other three base hits for the Demons in the home setback came on singles by Braylon Davis and Carson Cooper and an RBI single by Dallas Wilson.
In Tuesday’s road game at Meeker, the Demons took the early lead with a run in the top of the first. Meeker plated its four runs of the contest in the home half of the inning for a 4-1 advantage.
The Beggs offense was only able to manage a run in the top of the fourth to suffer the 4-2 setback.
Dallas Wilson absorbed the pitching loss for Beggs, allowing four runs on three hits with two strikeouts, five walks, and three hit batters in six innings of work.
Dakota Hudson was the top hitter for the Demons on Tuesday, finishing 2 for 3 with a pair of singles and an RBI.
The trio of Braylon Davis (2 for 4, 2 singles), Colton McCoy (2 for 4, 2 singles), and Jerrett Hammer (2 for 3, 2 singles) also recorded multi-hit games for Beggs on Tuesday with two hits each.
The final Demon base hit on Tuesday came on a single by Ranson Stephens.
Nate Melton accounted for the other Beggs run with an RBI sacrifice fly in the fourth.
