The March distribution of sales tax for the city of Henryetta fell nearly $10,000 from the same time period last year. Henryetta’s distribution for March 1998 totaled 132,309.67 compared to $142,283.33 in March, 1997. Dewar, Morris and Okmulgee also suffered declines. Okmulgee suffered the largest loss $22,972,72. In March of last year, Okmulgee collected more than $320,000 compared to $297,909.27. The March distribution of city sales tax collections by the Oklahoma Tax Commission totaled $60,290,454 representing local tax receipts from January business.

Clean Up Underway
The county wide cleanup campaign is underway with the cleanup contest for youth groups scheduled to begin on April 1st. All officially recognized youth groups, clubs and organizations are eligible to enter the contest and are urged to do so, according to A.B. Blackburn, Board Chairman. The contest, sponsored by Okmulgee County Conservation District, is sponsored each year in an effort to help improve our environment and make our county a cleaner and more desirable place to live.

Smelter Union Offered Flat 12.5 Cent Raise Must Decide by Monday Henryetta union smelter workers today had been offered a flat, across the board 12.5 cent an hour wage increase, according to F. G. McCutcheon, superintendent of the local Eagle-Picher Mining and Smelting Co. plant. McCutcheon said the offer was made at a conference between union wage committeemen and E-P company representatives here Wednesday afternoon. The increase would be effective when accepted thereby ruling out retro-activity.
