Benefit to help Beggs youth, family is Sunday
A benefit to help a county family with medical expenses will be held Sunday at the Okmulgee Community Center.
The Refuge Church in Okmulgee is hosting a Benefit Spaghetti Dinner for the McCoy Family, who is also part of the Beggs community.
The dinner will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the Okmulgee Community Center, 7th and Kern, with all donations going to the “Believe with Nehemiah” fund for medical expenses.
The benefit meal will include spaghetti, green beans, bread, tea/water for those attending.
There will also be a silent auction and a 65-gallon Yeti Cooler raffle for $5 per ticket.
“Please know we are sincerely grateful for your support and that every cent raised will help to go to Nehemiah’s cause,” Hilary Delso, who is coordinating the event, stated.
In 2020, Nehemiah McCoy was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma. He had major surgery which removed a large portion of his jaw bone in order to extract the cancerous tumors. He then had surgery to remove some of his leg bone to graft into his jaw.
Recently, Nehemiah had been experiencing bad pain in his leg and his jaw. His parents scheduled him for an MRI appointment where devastating images showed what looked like new tumors in the jaw bone at the places where he had been having pain.
Nehemiah’s treatment costs thousands and the follow up is 100 percent out of pocket.
Ewing’s Sarcoma has historically shown to not respond well to chemotherapy or to radiation.
His treatment includes: • Having an RGCC blood test taken and sending it to Greece. There the blood is cultured and tested for treatments that target and kill the specific cancer.
• Nehemiah is in Nevada where a specialist will see him and administer treatments. He will need to stay there for 4 weeks.
Other supports include intravenous Vitamin C twice weekly as many supplements.
The community support has been tremendous so far, and all assistance is gratefully appreciated.
Nehemiah and his mom Leslie are currently in Nevada and for those wishing to check up on his progress, reports are made on “Believe
with Nehemiah” on Facebook.
Nehemiah and his mom, Leslie, are now in Nevada, and she is keeping everyone up-to-date on his treatment.
