Henryetta unable to overcome sluggish start in loss to No. 20 Silo
The Henryetta Golden Knights’ bid for their first state basketball appearance in 73 years came to an end last Thursday afternoon at the Kerr Center in Ada.
The season-ending loss for the Knights came by a 61-51 margin to the No. 20 Silo Rebels in the consolation quarterfinals of the Class 3A, Area II tournament at East Central University.
The Henryetta cage squad closes out their 2022-2023 campaign with a 16-9 record and included third-place finishes at the Okemah and Henryetta tournaments and fourth place at the 2023 Muscogee Nation Invitational, as well as being crowned the Class 3A, Area II, District 2 champion and regional runner- up.
In last Thursday’s loser’s bracket showdown with Silo, the Knights struggled offensively in the first eight minutes of action, being blanked 16-0 in the first period.
The Henryetta squad broke free from its offensive struggles in the second quarter, erupting for 21 points in the 8-minute frame to trail by seven, 27-21, at halftime.
The Knights came out of the third stanza with a 15-13 advantage to cut the deficit to four, 40-36, with eight minutes remaining in regulation.
A Henryetta basket early in the final period cut the Silo lead to two, 40-38. That was as close as the Knights were able to get in their comeback bid, as the Rebels took the remainder of the quarter by a 21-13 margin to hand the Knights the season-ending loss, 61-51.
Nick Hudson led the way offensively for Henryetta in the contest, finishing with a team-best 16 points. Skylar Greenhaw and Jordan Short joined Hudson in double figures with 13 and 11 points, respectively.
Other offensive contributors for the Knights last Thursday were Will Perez with five, Austin Palmer four, and Hunter Gobin two.
