The Henryetta Lady Knight varsity basketball team had their 2022-2023 season come to a close last Thursday afternoon with a 51-49 loss to the Kellyville Lady Ponies in Kellyville.
The season-ending setback came in the consolation quarterfinals of the Class 3A Area II, regional tournament.
The Lady Knights found themselves in the loser’s bracket side of the regional tournament following a 61-31 loss to Holdenville February 18 in the District 2 championship game in Henryetta.
In last Thursday’s elimination game against Kellyville, the Henryetta ladies were outscored 16-9 in the first period, then went into the halftime break ahead by nine, 28-19, following a 19-3 advantage in the second stanza.
The host Lady Ponies cut the Henryetta lead to four, 37-33, heading into the final eight minutes of regulation after taking the third quarter by a 14-9 margin.
The Lady Knights were unable to hold onto the lead in the final frame, as the Henryetta cage squad was outscored 18-12 in the stanza to suffer the season- ending 51-49 loss. McKayla Greenhaw led the offensive attack for Henryetta with a team-best 23 points. Brooklyn Baughman also reached double-digit scoring for the Lady Knights last Thursday with a 10-point performance.
Other HHS scorers at Kellyville were Kassidy Lee and Serenity Rex with five points each, Graci Lollis four, and Allana Lawrence two.
