The 2022-2023 season for the Okmulgee Lady Bulldog varsity basketball team came to a close last Thursday afternoon at Prague High School with a 63-24 loss to the Little Axe Lady Warriors.
The season-ending setback occurred in the consolation quarterfinals of the Class 3A, Area II, regional tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs found themselves in the loser’s bracket round last Thursday after suffering a 62-24 loss to second-ranked Bethel February 17 in the District 4 championship game in Okmulgee.
In last Thursday’s elimination contest with Little Axe, the Lady Bulldogs trailed 18-6 after one and 29-14 at halftime.
Little Axe took the final two frames by margins of 22-6 and 12-4, respectively, to hand the Okmulgee cage squad the 63-24, season-ending, defeat.
The top scorer for the Lady Bulldogs last Thursday was Skye Sanders, who finished with six points.
Other Okmulgee scorers against Little Axe were Rhonisha Smith with four, Mellani Blackbear, Mallory Rivas, Cora Love, and Mariya Tecumseh three each, and Tori James two.
