Cynthia Voigt, American author, celebrates her birthday on February 25, 1942. She was born in Boston, Massachusetts, the daughter of a corporate executive and the second of three girls in her family and two younger twin brothers.
Her childhood consisted of piano, ballet and tap lessons, tennis, ballroom dancing and typing classes. She loved to read and write in school but not math or science classes. It was in the 9th grade because of a particular English assignment, she decided she wanted to someday be a writer.
Cynthia graduated from Smith College in Massachusetts and went to New York City to work in advertising. In 1964, she married and moved to New Mexico, where she started teaching. She divorced in 1972, remarried in 1974 and began writing again. She has two children, Jessica and Peter.
Her first book published in 1981, “Homecoming,” was the first book of seven in her Newberry- Award winning Tillerman Series. “Homecoming” was made into a film in 1996. In 2008, her book “Angus and Sadie” was given the Sequoyah Book Award (given by readers in Oklahoma).
Her hobbies include reading, eating well (especially with friends), tennis and movies.
We have several of her Junior Fiction books: “Angus and Sadie;” “The Book of Secrets;” “Mister Max: The Book of Kings;” “Mister Max: The Book of Lost Things;” “Teddy and Company;” “Toaff’s Way;” and “Young Fredle.”
