The Dewar girls varsity basketball team’s season came to a close last Thursday afternoon with a 5536 loss to the Stonewall Lady Longhorns.
The season-ending setback came in the consolation quarterfinals of the Class A, Area II, regional tournament at Vanoss High School.
The Lady Dragons finish the 2022-2023 campaign with a 12-11 record, which includes third-place finishes at the Wilson Tiger Classic and Jeff Hart Memorial Classic tournaments and the Small School championship plaque at the 2023 Muscogee Nation Invitational Tournament.
In last Thursday’s season-ending loss to Stonewall, the Lady Dragons trailed 17-6 after one and 32-14 at halftime. The Dewar cage squad was outscored 17-10 in the third quarter to go into the final frame with a 25-point deficit, 49-24.
The Lady Dragons doubled up on the Lady Longhorns 12-6 in the final stanza, but wound up on the losing end of a 55-36 outcome.
Dewar’s top scorer in the season-ending setback was Ally Burney with a team-high 16 points. Melanie Burney was next in the scoring column for the Lady Dragons with eight, followed by Bre Harvell with six. Sommer Bess and Adena Fowler rounded out the Dewar scoring last Thursday with three points each.
