The Beggs cage squads were unable to end their regular season on a winning note with both teams suffering double-digit defeats on Tuesday.
The Lady Demons found themselves on the short end of a 70-33 outcome to the host Lady Cougars, while the Demons dropped the nightcap by a 72-37 decision to the 8th-ranked Cougars.
The Beggs squad will open postseason play Friday at Chandler High School, battling the Chandler Lions and Lady Lions for the Class 3A, Area I, District 8 championships. Friday’s district tournament battle with Chandler will get underway with the girls game at 6 p.m. followed by the boys contest at 7:30 p.m.
Wins over Chandler on Friday will put the Beggs cagers in the winner’s bracket of next Thursday’s regional tournament opener at Washington High School at 6 and 7:30 p.m. against the Washington Warriors and Lady Warriors, who receive a bye in the district tournament pairings, while losses to Chandler will drop the Demons and Lady Demons into the regional consolation semifinals Friday at 1:30 and 3 p.m. at the Beggs Event Center against the loser of Thursday’s other regional winner’s bracket game that will take place at Metro Christian High School in Tulsa.
In Tuesday’s girls game against North Rock Creek, the Lady Demons trailed 21-7 after one and 39-15 at halftime.
The host Lady Cougars took the third quarter by a 16-10 margin, then outscored the Beggs ladies 12-8 in the the final frame to hand the Lady Demons the 70-33 setback.
Mylah Williams led the Beggs scoring in the regular-season finale with 10 points. Other scorers for the Lady Demons Tuesday were Bleu Hall with six, Tessa Christy five, Angel Aylor and Destiny Clay four each, and Kaley Collins and Konner Stanton two apiece.
In Tuesday’s boys contest with North Rock Creek, the Demons were outscored 29-10 after the first eight minutes of action. The Beggs gentlemen came out of the second period with a 13-9 margin to send the contest to the halftime break with the host Cougars leading by 15 points, 38-23.
The Demons were unable to get any closer in the second half, as North Rock Creek took the final two frames 20-6 and 14-8, respectively, to hand the Beggs squad the 72-37 loss.
Brayden King was tops offensively for Beggs with a team-high 13 points. Jaxon Remington also finished in double figures for the Demons on Tuesday with 11 points.
Other Beggs scorers in the regular- season finale were Logan Hicks with seven and Ezrah Anderson, Ashwynn Goudeau, and Red Martel two apiece.
